This one week course will give you an overview and a reference frame for what is coming in your AP Calculus course. We have designed this AP Kickstarter course to revolve around the specific expectation laid out by the College Board for the topics of Calculus. The College Board has laid out four key themes (big ideas) that you will need to understand before taking the exam and to perform well in your class! This is an intensive course requiring class time plus 1-2 hours of homework each evening.
This is far from being comprehensive. You must learn well from your teacher during the school term. To help you with the actual AP exam, we will also offer a Fall Tutorial Program and an AP Prep Camp during the February break.
The key to scoring high on the AP Calculus Exam is “practice, practice, practice”. More than any other AP exams, getting that “5” in AP Calculus will require you to practice until you start dreaming about derivatives and integrals.
Are there any prerequisites?
The core of Calculus is well within your reach if you know Algebra. To study Calculus, you will need some familiarity with two notions: the notion of a number and that of a function. While Arithmetic manipulates numbers, Algebra finds patterns between numbers and Calculus finds patterns between equations.
Course Format
This highly interactive course will provide students exposure and practice with the 6 Big Ideas. Limited to a maximum of 8 students, students will get plenty of individualized attention and the ability to learn along with other students!
Expectations
In addition to class time, students will be expected to complete approximately 2 hours of homework each day in order to study, practice, and apply what they learn in class!
